Abstract: The rapid growth of inexpensive and easily accessible communicating devices embedded into any new or existing physical devices converting them into the intelligent device called the Internet of Things, IoT. The increasing uses of these devices have attracted attention from various sectors including consumer market, business, industry, health, government, education, research, and many others. In educational sectors, many institutions are exploring the advanced digital infrastructure applications to improve the learning and teaching abilities of the difficult subject of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). The uses of IoT devices in the classroom or laboratory activities are used that can enhance the learning process with innovative ideas to increase student’s motivation is much faster and effective ways. The other aspect of the IoT in education is to introduce the concept of IoT to the students by adapting the course on IoT. Since the IoT consists of diverse components of hardware, software, programming, electronics, and electrical components, the educational sectors are trying to incorporate IoT in their course curriculum to match their program objectives. The inclusion of IoT in the curriculum is based on the program objectives and majors. For non-engineers, non-coders, and many others, the IoT course needs to be designed and delivered in a different way than the engineering, engineering technology, programming majors which will be discussed in this paper. This paper will discuss the use of widely available educational IoT kits along with its benefits, and challenges that could be used for beginners or non-majors.
