Abstract: Advanced Competition Simulations (ACS) is a fast-growing start-up company in the competitive online gaming industry. Their initial plunge into success has left them in an almost chaotic environment with conflict over their next project priority. Without a formal governance process, CEO Rich Amber assumed the role of setting project priorities, which essentially meant he would write his preferred project at the top of their white board priority list. This approach led to tension in the company with his over-eagerness to forge ahead with more innovative and exciting projects while deprioritizing the mundane projects regardless of their importance for keeping the company operational. Priority issues become all too real, though, when a power outage caused the data center to crash and left the team scrambling to restore operations and recover data.
