Abstract: While assessment is acknowledged as a critical enabler of student learning, literature shows lack of alignment between learning objectives and the types of assessment used in practice. This paper reports on the findings of education and IS literature in order to define and evaluate the role of assessment in promoting higher learning objectives for Information Systems majors. The paper recommends a four stage approach to the evaluation and development of assessment portfolios for IS education. The discussion closes with recommendations for future research.
