Network Security is a growing concern for both worlds of business and education. Universities have kept a low profile about problems involving network security. Major publications have featured articles on network security at companies in recent months. Since hackers have been a problem for all types of companies with network systems, the focus of this paper was two-fold: to determine student perceptions relative to the university level of network security and hacker vulnerability as opposed to security levels identified by network security administrators at selected four-year colleges. A survey was administered to business students to solicit their perceptions of university network security and telephone interviews were conducted with network administrators at selected four-year colleges. The paper outlining the results of the study will be shared with participants along with recommendations for improving university network security systems.
Keywords: network security, hackers
